Educational Foundation gears up for February 27, 2009 gala

The Ridge Meadows Educational Foundation is busy preparing for its third annual gala event on Friday, February 27, 2009 at the Thomas Haney Centre. The foundation’s directors are building on the success of the two previous events and plan to present a truly memorable evening of art, music and food.

The evening will feature a gourmet meal prepared by culinary arts students, followed by musical performances courtesy of school district music programs. A highlight of the evening will be the unveiling of a major public art project created in partnership with the Downtown Business Improvement Association, and Parks and Leisure Services. The evening will also feature a live and silent auction and displays of student artwork.

All proceeds go to the Ridge Meadows Educational Foundation, which works to enhance public education in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows by funding programs and resources beyond what is possible with government funding.

The Ridge Meadows Educational Foundation

The Ridge Meadows Educational Foundation works to co-ordinate fund raising initiatives for enhanced fine arts, sports and specialty programs in School District No. 42. The goal of the RMEF is to support the types of programs that encourage our youth to stay in school and experience a fuller, richer and more rounded education. The RMEF also acts as a focal point to manage bursaries and scholarships for district students.

The RMEF funds between 35 and 40 scholarships, bursaries and awards each year for school district graduates. In addition, it has donated $20,000 to enhance school fine arts  programs, it sponsors the School District's Track and Field meet, and supports a summer early literacy program for at-risk readers in grades 1 and 2.
